You may have noticed from looking around the website that SKATTLE run therapeutic groups for kids and young people going through difficult life experiences.
We call these our Children and Change groups.
Whenever we run a kids group, we run a concurrent parent group so that parents can connect and explore how their role as a parent might have been challenged as a result of the changes that brought their family to SKATTLE.
We always check in with all the parents at the end of the groups to see if it has been helpful and explore what they have taken away from the experience.
To give some sense of what people take away from these groups, we have captured below some feedback from a recent group:
Many parents have enjoyed finding connections with the other members of the group. The program helped some of our parents to “put the pieces together” and gain clarity around the connections between their values and actions. Others have felt that they can now reflect on the ways that “storms” affect them and their children, and have been able to regain a sense of balance.
Other parents felt that the group has helped them to gain wisdom, and to better understand their actions. The path to travel seems clearer, and they feel they now have the insight to move forward and help guide their children.
Lasting the distance
One of the parents finds it easier now to put things into perspective and to not deny the “storms” that come through her life. She also hopes that the skills she has identified within herself during the group will stay with her and help her into the future, to help her “last the distance”
For some of our parents the programs has helped them to learn more about giving; about how they can pass on their strengths to their children and others.
The sessions helped one of the parents in “putting the pieces together”. They have learned how “storms” affect them and have gained clarity about how their actions and reactions connect to what they value most.
Growing in Wisdom
The group helped some of the parents to remember the importance of having a base and regaining balance. It has also helped them to grow in wisdom about how to reset when they are feeling stressed and “snappy”. They have felt that during the program they have grown in wisdom and are now more able to understand why they do certain things. Some parents have felt that by being able to better understand connections between their actions, values, history and hopes, they have been able to uncover their inner potential.
Take the Path
One of the parents in our group found that the group program helped them to understand the path for them to travel and now feel that they have the insight to move forward and guide their children in life.
