We are so happy that you have found our space – welcome to the SKATTLE Blog!
So who are we, exactly?
SKATTLE is an acronym, meaning Supporting Kids and Teens Through Life-changing Experiences. We are a not-for-profit organisation that specialises in counselling children, teenagers, and their families who are experiencing change.
What is ‘change’? For us, it means experiences like:
- The death of a loved one
- A medical diagnosis or illness
- Family separation or divorce
- Moving home or resettling
- Or any other kind of loss or grief experience
Through both our individual and group counselling sessions, we aim to support the community through such experiences in ways which can leave them feeling strong.
We also work with professionals such as counsellors, human service workers, and students through our professional training workshops and clinical supervision. These trainings teach professionals our unique approach with children and their families, which adopts elements from Narrative and Solution-Focused ideas.
So why the blog?
We want to share what we do with you. We are the only organisation in Brisbane to specialise in grief and loss work with children, and we are the only organisation in Queensland who provide training in our particular approach. We want to provide both families and professionals with meaningful information about how these issues can affect us, and how we can use our own skills and knowledge to be resilient through such times.
But most of all, we want to create a community to talk about these issues. We want to hear your thoughts and ideas about how to stand strong. We want to start a conversation about why these things are important, and why it’s ok to talk about them.
If you want to get involved, pop over and like our Facebook page or comment below. We’d love to hear what you think!
